Castration (neutering)
of the male dog
When the male dog is
being castrated,
both testicles are
being removed. Again,
I do not believe in
having this done,
unless it is
absolutely necessary.
For instance, when
the male dog has
problems with an
enlarged prostate,
which often occurs
with older dogs.
Advantage:
* The dog will no
longer chase bitches.
* Because the dog
feels less ‘macho’,
he will flaunt his
territorial
instincts less often.
* After the
castration, dogs
which compulsively
‘mount’ all the
time, will no longer
do this.
* Personality
changes for better.
Disadvantage:
* The latest
research results:
castrated dogs have
4x more chance to
develop prostate
cancer.
* This operation
also takes place
under complete
narcosis and thus is
risky. It is however
less risky than the sterilization of the
bitch.
* The
hormone-balance of
the male dog is
being removed, which
influences his coat.
* The male dog also
has a bigger chance
to become corpulent
after the castration.
* Personality
changes for worse.
